How often should you get your hair colored?

September 8th, 2010

First of all, it depends on the type of hair coloring you choose. Maybe you’re a bleach foils girl. Perhaps a natural looking all-over color guy. How about an all-over color with some peek-a-boo highlights or lowlights lady? Whoever you are now or become in the future, you want to keep your coloring looking fresh so you feel polished each day.

 All-over color

Color starts to lose its vibrancy in about 6 to 8 weeks. This means you should color your hair every 6 to 8 weeks and not exceed 10 weeks in between coloring.

 Gray coverage

Oh, those pesky gray hairs. Keep them out of sight by coloring every 4 to 6 weeks.

 Blondes/Highlights

Most people who color their hair blonde have a rather dark natural color, making it difficult to hide outgrowth. To maintain your blonde hair or highlights, color every 8 weeks. Also remember that bleach foils are not the only way to get blonde. Switch it up! Have your stylist tone your hair between foil appointments and you can stretch out the time between bleaching. Since bleach tends to dry hair out, more time in between bleach foils will make for happier hair, which usually means a happier you. We like that.

 Tip

It’s a good idea to schedule your appointment ahead of time to ensure that you don’t wait too long between colors. None of us can pull off an inch or two of outgrowth for very long. Schedule your next appointment before you leave Simonson’s.
